EXTENSIVE FAQ

Q: Is this clinic a showcase for recruiting? Will there be a competition?

A: No and no. The Ascent Track and Field Clinic at George Mason University is not a showcase for recruiting, nor will there be a track and field meet during the clinic. Our focus is on providing a supportive and enriching environment where athletes can grow, learn, and have fun without the pressure of competition. The clinic is designed to offer valuable coaching, skill development, and camaraderie, emphasizing personal improvement and enjoyment of the sport.

Q: I need to edit my child’s registration information– how do I do that?

A: We use Sawyer for our clinic registration software, and they offer a very easy, streamlined process that allows you to edit your information easily. Please see the following link for instructions on how to make changes to your profile: Sawyer Instructions

Q: Is all my paperwork done– what forms do I need to complete?

A: If your son/daughter is registered for the clinic, all your paperwork is completed except for one form: the Attendee Authorized Pick-up Form, which will be sent out towards the end of June. We don’t include this form upon registration, because we think it's near-impossible to make plans for who will be picking someone up from an activity several months ahead of time!

Additionally,  shortly after the conclusion of the clinic, we will send you an optional follow-up questionnaire.

Q: What should we do about housing?

A: While we do not offer housing, there are many hotels in the area. Fairfax, VA and the greater Washington D.C. area can get busy in the summer, so we encourage you to make accommodations sooner rather than later!

Q: My son/daughter does more than one event. Can they go back and forth between event groups?

A: Our policy is to not allow this, as there are some concepts that are learned on the first day that will carry over and be built upon, and we want to maximize the learning experience.

Q: What should my child bring to the clinic each day?

A: Participants should bring appropriate athletic attire, including running shoes, comfortable clothing suitable for outdoor activities, sunscreen, a water bottle, and any necessary medications or medical supplies. Additionally, don't forget to bring a positive attitude and a willingness to learn!

Q: Will there be medical staff on-site during the clinic?

A: Yes, the safety and well-being of our participants are of utmost importance to us. We have trained medical personnel available on-site throughout the duration of the clinic to address any medical concerns or emergencies.

Q:What measures are in place to ensure the safety of participants? What happens in case of inclement weather?

A: We adhere to strict safety protocols to create a secure environment for all participants. This includes supervision by our medical director, qualified coaches and staff, regular equipment inspections, first aid availability, and adherence to all relevant health and safety guidelines. In the event of inclement weather, we have contingency plans in place to ensure a smooth and safe experience for participants. Updates regarding any schedule changes or cancellations due to weather will be communicated promptly via email and our website (we will put announcements up at the top of this page).

Q: Are there any opportunities for parents to observe or participate in the clinic?

A: Parents are welcome to sit in the stands, which will offer a limited viewing area, but participation in the clinic activities is reserved for registered parents and coaches only (if you’re a parent who wants to attend as a coach, you have that option!). However, we encourage parents to engage with our staff and coaches to gain insight into their child's progress and experience. As a reminder, to ensure the safety of all involved, it is mandatory that all parents and coaches who register for the clinic must undergo a criminal background check.

Q: Is there parking available for attendees?

A: Parking information will be provided closer to the clinic dates, but we must caution you that parking at the George Mason Athletic facilities is limited. As the clinic date approaches, we recommend checking back on this page for any communication from our team for detailed parking instructions and recommendations.

Q: Will meals or snacks be provided during the clinic?

A: Participants are responsible for bringing their own snacks for the duration of the clinic. However, we will provide lunch, and water stations and breaks throughout the day for participants to rehydrate and refuel. If your child has special dietary needs, we urge them to bring their own lunch, but we will have a lunch that also offers vegetarian options.

Q: What is the cancellation policy?

A: At this point we are past the date allowable for full refunds, but until May 15 refunds will be honored sans-deposit ($150). After May 15, no refunds will be honored.

Q: How can I get in touch with the clinic organizers if I have further questions?
